Your article above covered a lot of the news correctly but I just want to correct you on one part... The three Fianna Fáil members did not get the sack, they quit over the Bill because they disagreed with it, how sad is that!!

While our government officials had a lot of support for the Bill, there were some Irish citizens who weren't happy about it, check out my YouTube video, Ireland's Civil Partnership Bill, for some coverage of it that I gave.

On the run up to the Bill, the Catholic Church asked our government to reconsider passing it. There was a lot of outrage at he church over this because they have no right to put their noses into our countries running and also there has been a HUGE child sex abuse scandal over here involving the church.

As you highlighted, the Bill does a lot of good for same sex couples here in Ireland, just short of actually allowing marriage. It's definitely a step in the right direction for our country and I'm delighted to see it come in.

Thanks for giving it some coverage here, much appreciated.

Paul Boland.Paul Bolandhttp://www.iol.ie/~pkbnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-4392790010515679902010-07-23T10:33:20.916-07:002010-07-23T10:33:20.916-07:00I'm a teenage lesbian from Ireland myself and ...I'm a teenage lesbian from Ireland myself and I'm really glad that Gay rights in Ireland are being heard. I really hope to grow up in my county feeling I'm treated equal, that I can marry who I love and hopefully someday have a family. I really hope this is a step to further equality in Ireland and that people see past the Catholic Church. As 'Ervs' said there has been a lot of hate and loss of trust towards the Catholic Church because of the abuse to women and children, so the Catholic Church is become less of a influence our our government. What I really hope is everyone is treated fairly and that religion is a lifestyle for the individual person and not a whole country.

:)Ruthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06761288688473712377noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-21125615285529642152010-07-23T10:31:53.218-07:002010-07-23T10:31:53.218-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Mysicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07820730435102826176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-54487409521420331252010-07-23T09:59:56.468-07:002010-07-23T09:59:56.468-07:00There is a very secular and anti Catholic strain i...There is a very secular and anti Catholic strain in the people of Ireland right now because of all the bad things of children and women being sexually abused by priests, and The Laundries being places of abuse for women who were deemed unfit for society like "Bad Girls." The insistence on performing these duties is to not let the Catholic Church have any influence on secular matters. They are over it.Ervshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15913622901401531817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-61231295341938346692010-07-21T22:26:53.403-07:002010-07-21T22:26:53.403-07:00Yes they have all that, the rights missing are tho...Yes they have all that, the rights missing are those relating to children. So an Irish Civil partner had no rights or responsibilities over step children for example.orangegoblin82https://www.blogger.com/profile/02965643202623903623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-6306651922885532452010-07-21T18:23:15.759-07:002010-07-21T18:23:15.759-07:00Good for Ireland.

I remember hearing that this can be a problem. Also (I'm not sure what it is called) the ability to be allowed to see a loved one when they're in the hospital?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-28945536147253355432010-07-21T13:21:41.578-07:002010-07-21T13:21:41.578-07:00Congratulations to Ireland. It's a good first step which hopefully will lead to full equality, including the rights to adopt children.Cowboyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16700398252723780578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-86425119056275908162010-07-21T13:16:21.893-07:002010-07-21T13:16:21.893-07:00..."They started going Irish dancing and slow......"They started going Irish dancing and slowly took over. Thats a bit excessive to me. This is not, after all, a violent act.

third...I really hope that you do in fact get civil marriages. It seems as if you guys have everything BUT the word...it is long overdue. Maybe if you are granted full marriage then Ireland will follow suite eventually....then the rest of the world...and finally America will grudgingly follow suite wilst muttering under its breath.GFVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02950236433262366445noreply@blogger.com
