There was not one where I lived when I moved away, and I still think of it fondly, so many great memories there. I think my gym teacher was one of the bartenders, or her girlfriend. Hilficker I think. At that time there was also the Pit Stop, a little further south towards Rohnert Park near an old Drive-in-Theater. I think it died more from AIDS than the internet tho.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-90782132748679874472011-12-25T20:42:11.883-08:002011-12-25T20:42:11.883-08:00I totally agree with you Bryan! Its a shame that teens can't really meet anybody. I think it would be better to have the bars because slowly people are losing the ability to talk in person, so i think making a bar or club out here would be a good thing. Great post Bryan :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-60191484898147728492010-10-19T22:54:44.403-07:002010-10-19T22:54:44.403-07:00Your words touch my heart. I yearn to actually talk to people who understand all the things we go through in our own areas.

The internet is a wonderful source and has given us many new avenues to explore and connect. Still it is not the same as enjoying the company of another person.

I dream one day we can all live our lives in peace and happiness. A unity wherever we may meet becomes a safe haven. When we speak we are heard and respected. Most importantly having no fear, simply because we exist.

So I join your toast with one of my own. "May your Life be safe, our community bring you Healing, the Sunlight shine upon your grace, Nature welcome you in warm embrace, Magic fill your soul, and we all find Harmony in friendship." I can see what you mean, it's a double edged sword. It's great that we are being accepted, but sad to see smaller venues no longer being supported.
To be honest I mainly go to straight establishments as I like the music and vibe better, but the Queer community isn't so contained here.
Some of the Gay clubs throw Straight Nights ha ha ha.Danhttp://www.youtube.com/ExplorationBnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-77467819625846644132010-10-18T23:18:54.654-07:002010-10-18T23:18:54.654-07:00As some one who is seriously needing a physical co...As some one who is seriously needing a physical community, a gay bar would be a wonderful resource, a chance to just be around others like me, or at least somewhat like me. But our tiny town doesn't have such a place.

But I've also noticed that a great many of the small hole in the wall bars have closed. It seems as though everyone wants to drink in chain places now. And while a hole in the wall straight bar doesn't serve quite the same purpose as a local gay bar, it still is a unraveling of neighborhoods, local spirit, and a sense of uniqueness from area to area that our country used to have. Our entire country is becoming as flavorful as an airport.

I totally agree with SakuraPedaler this IS your best post EVER! BFF moved away. Years later, grown up, he moved back to town (Sebastopol). We hung out a few times and he treated me (protectively) like a younger brother, which I thought was sweet, but which also rankled because, you know, I was all grown up! Anyway, we lost touch for a little while, then I heard he was gay. Not long after that I made one of my few forays to the Santa Rosa Inn. I was dancing on the lightly populated dance floor when I saw my bro's BFF watching the action. I danced up to him. "Hi!" I said. Obviously, even melodramatically, shocked, old friend said, "What are you doing here?" I answered, "Dancing."Glenn Ingersollhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10674475308395975995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-34513260799168009792010-10-18T21:54:33.993-07:002010-10-18T21:54:33.993-07:00Okay, you are all going bash me, I know.
I am sad...Okay, you are all going bash me, I know.

I am sad, too, that those bars from long ago, with their history and memories are gone, replaced by the internet, but I am also glad that GBLT youths have alternatives to meet people, without the omnipresent alcohol, and smoke. To be honest, and this is where you are free to bash away, but my friends have done the same, so it's nothing new, I have never liked the bar scene and the atmosphere it projected. I think bars can be healthily replaced by clubs that cater to different needs, like choirs, outdoors clubs, cultural events, etc. The late night rendez-vous was necessary in the old days when being gay was taboo. Today, even small towns can be a place where GBLT youths can feel accepted, bullying notwithstanding. In fact, the continuing reliance on bars for GBLT "culture" perpetuates the stereotypes.

I say, remember those pioneers, like Stonewall, but let them go gracefully into our history books, so new chapters can be written for the youth of tomorrow.Cowboyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16700398252723780578noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-7526625909092793032010-10-18T18:08:12.402-07:002010-10-18T18:08:12.402-07:00Bryan, I think this was your best blog ever.
