Enlightening and grounded, as always. This was something that stood out to me.

Circus performers are always exhausted after they do their craft, and they get injured a lot in practice. But a truly successful night leaves the audience wondering how it is that they managed to accomplish so many beautiful things.

Complete and total awe.

And joy.

I look forward to the day when that moment of looking back on the accomplishments of the past takes place in America, and around the world. So that complete and total awe, and joy, can be read on the faces of every human that has the right the experience marriage.canadianhumilityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17765821265373068860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-87010726598239591142010-02-24T21:03:29.903-08:002010-02-24T21:03:29.903-08:00Nice... I'm also keeping an eye on Iceland, Finland, Denmark (after the 2011 elections) and the Faroes.

The UK looks set to end the ban on civil partnerships being performed in churches now that there are growing calls from religious groups including the Quakers and Liberal Judaism (didn't CA's Jews vote something 95% against Prop. 8?) as well as support from some senior CofE clergy just recently. However unless the upcoming general election results in a hung parliament, full marriage equality is unlikely for at least five years as the Tories won't make any moves towards equality - the only reason they're promising to keep CPs is that it would be political suicide to do otherwise. If there's a hung parliament there's an outside chance the Lib Dems will push somethign through with support from the Greens & Labour. Public support for marriage equality in the UK is at 61% and rising fast - a situation similar to those in IS, FI, DK & FO - so we're in a vote-winning situation here.

Elsewhere in the British Isles the Tynwald, States & Oireachtas (the legislatures of Mann, Jersey & Ireland respectively) have all begun the process of legalising civil partnerships. This leaves Guernsey as the last country in the British Isles not currently taking any action - which I doubt will be the case for long. Mann already recognises UK CPs and will presumably recognise Irish & Jersey ones, so the Manx situation is currently similar to that of NY or MD.Tavdyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10109151555493408645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-15710687374114432612010-02-24T15:29:03.115-08:002010-02-24T15:29:03.115-08:00Just as a note, the same-sex ban was rejected in W...Just as a note, the same-sex ban was rejected in West Virginia, not Virginia. Which is probably a little more surprising, really.

Also, though not marriage related, I thought you might be interested in this from Pennsylvania:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10055/1038196-100.stm
A parent's sexual orientation can no longer be used as part of a child custody decision in Pennsylvania. This is really great news. I knew quite a few gay parents who were hurt by the old precedent when I was living in PA.Sameernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-48305935140360624422010-02-24T13:04:40.628-08:002010-02-24T13:04:40.628-08:00no problem kim...you made good points :)no problem kim...you made good points :)GFVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02950236433262366445noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-587902609826926070.post-10625423900892626492010-02-24T12:09:05.957-08:002010-02-24T12:09:05.957-08:00...aaand you already mentioned Sorba! (I can dream, anyway.)

And hey, if the majority of Republicans at CPAC can boo homophobic jerks -- even if it's only in self-interest because they've finally realized that bigotry and intolerance look bad -- at least that's another baby step. If it's not some kind of down-homey upstanding thing to do, even to them, then maybe there's hope.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13738377880145008895noreply@blogger.com
